About the Webinar:

You Are Your Only Limit! Strategies to Motivate Students Based on the Science of Learning
Presented by Mrs. Liliana Salazar, National Director for Special Education and Student Support, Academica, and Ms. Bonnie May, Regional Director of Support & Services, Academica

This dynamic and interactive session explored how the science of learning can help educators motivate students and create classrooms where persistence, curiosity, and growth thrive. Drawing from cognitive science, psychology, and neuroscience, Mrs. Salazar and Ms. May introduced research-based strategies—such as growth mindset, resilience, academic buoyancy, and the Kohler effect—that educators can use to help students overcome challenges and stay engaged in learning. Through humor, participation, and practical classroom examples, the presenters demonstrated how motivation isn’t just about enthusiasm—it’s about designing lessons that build confidence, relevance, and a sense of progress.

Attendees participated in collaborative activities that illustrated how small shifts in feedback, goal-setting, and student choice can spark intrinsic motivation and improve retention. By connecting these strategies to the realities of today’s students—including the effects of technology, post-pandemic stress, and diverse learning needs—Salazar and May emphasized that motivation must be intentionally planned and cultivated. Their message was clear: when educators invest effort into motivating students, they empower them to take ownership of their learning—and truly believe that they are their only limit.
